On October 31, in Baju County, Chamdo City, Tibet, at an altitude of 5200 meters, the world's highest altitude wind power project - Datang Baju Wind Power Station was officially put into production at full capacity.
The highest point of Datang Baju Wind Power Station is 5,200 meters above sea level, and the highest altitude of the nacelle is 5,305 meters, which is the highest altitude wind power project in the world that has been completed and put into operation. A total of 20 wind turbines are installed in the project, with a height of 110 meters at the center of the fan hub, an impeller diameter of 195 meters, and a maximum swept area of more than 30,000 square meters of blades, which is equivalent to the area of more than four standard soccer fields. At full wind speed, a single unit can generate 9.5 kWh of electricity per revolution.
Wang Honglang, general director of Datang Baju wind power project, introduced that the project can add more than 223 million kWh of new clean power annually after commissioning, save about 73,100 tons of standard coal, reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 182,800 tons, and meet the 230,000 people's annual life with electricity. While guaranteeing the people's winter heating and safe supply of electricity, the project can effectively improve the energy structure of the Tibet Autonomous Region.
The first batch of independent grid-type energy storage projects in Tibet will be connected to the grid soon.
Not only the wind power project, October 31, Datang Ali independent grid-type energy storage project has completed all the main construction, with grid conditions, which marks the first batch of independent grid-type energy storage power station in Tibet will be put into operation.
Independent network-type energy storage power station is equivalent to a stable power grid “charging treasure”, when the surrounding line failure, energy storage power station can be spontaneously started for the power grid power supply. Datang Ali independent grid-type energy storage and supply project, located in Gar County, Ali region, the average altitude of 4,282 meters, the construction of 60 megawatts / 300 megawatt hours of energy storage power station, means that it can store 300,000 degrees of electricity, but also to the grid reverse power supply of 280,000 degrees.
Ali region is rich in renewable energy resources, energy storage project can make up for wind power, photovoltaic and other new energy intermittent power supply short board, better storage and utilization of clean energy. After the project is put into operation, more than 20 million kilowatt-hours of clean energy can be added annually, which can effectively fill the gap of electricity and power in Ali region.
Datang Ali region independent network-type energy storage and supply project manager Zhang Yajun introduction, the project put into operation every day can provide about 280,000 degrees of electricity, 60 battery warehouse can be solved in the Ali region tens of thousands of residents with electricity.
Empowering the Roof of the World Tibet's Clean Energy Development Speeds Up
The Baxu wind power and Ali energy storage projects are just part of Tibet's new energy progress since 2024. Tibet is building a new power system demonstration area and creating a high-level national clean energy base, with major national engineering projects as its traction.
Since 2024, the Tibet Autonomous Region has increased the construction of wind power, photovoltaic and other clean energy projects in accordance with the energy development strategy of building “one base and two demonstrations”. Three Gorges Tsomei wind power, Datang Baju wind power, Huadian Tea Bara photovoltaic and a large number of wind and new energy projects put into operation and power generation, nuclear Saga wind integration and 41 power supply projects are accelerating the construction.
Up to now, the installed capacity of electric power in Tibet has exceeded 8 million kilowatts, and the installed capacity of electric power under construction has exceeded 27 million kilowatts. Among them, the built photovoltaic installed capacity of 3.46 million kilowatts, wind power installed capacity of 180,000 kilowatts, clean energy installed capacity accounted for 96%, accounting for ranked first in the country.
From the electricity consumption side, from January to September 2024, Tibet's whole society consumed 10.9 billion kWh of electricity, up 15% year-on-year; the region's power generation capacity was 13.8 billion kWh, up 6% year-on-year. Up to now, Tibet's cumulative export of clean electricity has exceeded 20 billion kWh.
As a next step, by the end of the Fourteenth Five-Year Plan, it will strive to build an installed capacity of over 11.5 million kilowatts, and an installed capacity of over 30 million kilowatts, with an outward transmission capacity of over 5 million kilowatts.
